Q: Tell us a little about yourself.

A: Hello! I'm Adrienne and I live in Washington State. I was born in Canada and moved to the US about 2 years ago to come live with my husband when we got married. I live on a farm out in the country with a whole bunch of pets! I have a home and garden blog called Crafty Little Gnome and an Etsy shop where I sell handmade accessories called Adrienne Audrey Jewelry. I like to spend my time offline working on craft projects, gardening, and different home improvement projects around the house. 

Q: I understand you are relatively new to the US, and yet not far from home. What do you like most about living here? What do you miss about BC?

A: To be honest, I wasn't sure I was going to like living in the states only because I love Canada so much and it will always be my home. I love it here though! The great thing about the U.S. it that it's a huge diverse country. You can literally go to the desert, arctic, tropics, mountains and so much more without leaving the country. In Canada the only place you can go with relatively nice weather year round is Vancouver.

Q: It looks as though you live on a farm, with all the plants, animals, and nearby berry picking! Have you always been outdoorsy?
A: I've always loved nature and like to spend as much time in it as possible. I love living out on a farm and will probably never move. 

Q: What made you decide to sell jewelry on Etsy?

A: I stumbled upon Etsy when I was looking for jewelry for my wedding. I had no idea that people were selling handmade items online and being quite successful! I decided an online shop was perfect for me since there is little start up costs. I can be quite a shy gal so the ability to "hide" behind the computer screen is definitely appealing!  I make a ton of crafts and handmade items in "real life" but I decided to sell jewelry because I love to wear it,  it's relatively easy to make, cheap to ship and popular with online customers.

Q: Who/What inspires you?

A: I am inspired by nature and pop culture. I love fairy tales and vintage. I get inspired by other artists and art.

Q: What is the most popular item in your shop?
A: My Vampire Bite necklaces have been a huge hit with the Tween crowd and my Lace necklaces have been very popular with brides. Anything Alice in Wonderland inspired usually sells well too. 


Q: What do you think is the secret to the success of your shop?
A: I think I have been successful because I work extremely hard. In the beginning I spent hours reading everything I could about how to run a successful online shop and a ton of time promoting my shop any way I could. I'm constantly tweaking and trying to improve. I have come a long way since I first started. I'm still not at the level I would like to be at. It's hard to have patience. Results take time and when you are working so hard it's easy to get frustrated when things aren't happening as fast as you would like. 


Q: Where do you promote your shop (blog, Facebook, Twitter, ads, etc.)
A: I promote on Facebook, Twitter and my blog. I have done giveaways and promotions with other blogs and advertising on several blogs and sites like craftcult. I use free social media sites like Stumble Upon, Flickr, Pintrest, Craft Juice, Craftgawker to promote my work. Basically I have tried everything and they each have helped in their own way.  The best promotion was when Jezebel featured a few of my necklaces on their site last Christmas. I had a huge surge in sales.  Free promotion like that is always awesome.

Q: What accomplishment are you most proud of in regards to your shop?

A: I am really proud that I actually have had success on Etsy and make money off of my creativity. It just feels so good when a customer writes you an email telling you how much they love their jewelry.  That always makes my day.

Q: What are your future plans for your shop?

A: I plan to keep on posting new items in my shop and getting ready for the fall and Christmas shopping season. I might open a second store with home and garden related items.
