Stitch Fix Review Summer 2016: Laid Back Casual Chic Style

Stitch Fix and I have a long, complicated relationship. Initially, it was that new thing I just had to try and an attempt at replacing my old wardrobe in the transition from working Mom to stay-at-home-mom of 4. Then, crazy me, I took a job as a stylist with them. Whew! That was crazy.

Now, we are like old friends, occasionally getting together and picking right back up where we left off. I couldn't resist getting back in the swing when I got the infamous "The Styling Fee is On Us" email. So I updated my profile, threw in a few requests, and here's what the stylist picked out for #19.

First up, the classic 41Hawthorn Breyson Pleated Tab-Sleeved Blouse in Coral.

     

I get this choice. I have a long torso and like a straight fit, and the $37 price tag is perfect for my budget. #1 asked me if I liked this one, and when I said "the color makes me feel like a lobster", she frowned and said "ahhh, it looks good on you." I always love this color on the hanger, but feel like it washes me out. But a teenager told me it looks good, so...what's an old lady to do? #4 suggested baseball, but I was wearing my white Loft jeans, so....

I tried on the Skies are Blue Timone Knit Tank in Jewel Tone Purple, $48.

One of the things I made sure to do when I updated my profile this time was request shoulder coverage, so this choice was a little perplexing at first. But, they do know I'm a sucker for layering (I've bought several cardis) so I'm thinking my request for jewel tones and this specific brand won out.

I couldn't resist putting on my favorite new hat from my Chloe + Isabel Boutique, the Wide-Brimmed Summer Straw Hat. Next thing you know, I'm layering, again. #1 thinks I've put too many patterns together. Chevron and Aztec don't go together? Obviously, I don't care.

I am officially addicted to Chloe + Isabel jewelry now so you may have noticed my Capri Convertible Necklace above, which I converted to a single layer for this look.

I forgot to mention they also sent me a pair of Kut From The Kloth Kate Boyfriend jeans ($88), which I was wearing with the Skies are Blue Timone and kept on for the next outfit. I scratched my head a bit when I saw them headed my way (iPhone app cheat this time around). But I did say I liked this brand. It's just, I already got this exact style and size and returned it. They were longer this time, which helped. I like them, but I just bought a few used pair at 1/3 the price.

Here they are with the Papermoon Neptune Racerback Top in Cobalt, $38.

Excuse the expression, I just couldn't even pretend to be comfortable in this piece. I hate baring my shoulders and the racerback put me over the edge. I felt much more comfortable with the Market & Spruce Alan French Terry Asymmetrical Zip Cardigan (navy, $37) over.

This type of outfit is definitely me. But I feel like I already own it. I have several boho print, polyester tops and solid cardigans. So the wow factor was missing here.

I do love the funky, asymmetrical detail and the color is great for my skin tone. And I'm always looking for an excuse to put on my Capri Pendant Necklace. The length is adjustable and it looks great over so many necklines, and I love how it looks above the cardigan.

So, I guess you could say I have no idea what I'll do! For those of you who are new, they usually charge a $20 styling fee when the box ships which they credit back if you keep something. It's not much, but it usually motivates me to keep something. But this time they waived the fee!

The absolute best thing about subscription box shopping is taking your time deciding what to keep. I can try it all on again tomorrow, mix and match pieces with other clothes I have (and jewelry!), and take my time getting opinions from friends and family. And when I've made up my mind, I'll send the rest back in my mailbox!

Stitch Fix Review June 2015

It's June, are you kidding me?! I can't believe my 6th Stitch Fix just showed up. I started getting this subscription shortly after my little one was born, and he just passed the 6 month mark! It is bitter sweet, seeing my 4th and final teeny tiny grow so fast.

As you can imagine, I don't have a whole lot of time for fancying myself up! When I do, I am happy to have accumulated many lovely items from Stitch Fix that I dearly love. So, this time around I asked for tshirts and tanks to wear with jeans for everyday use. I also mentioned I have a patriotic concert coming up, and wouldn't mind another dress. My personal stylist is so attentive, see for yourself!

She sent me not 1, not 2, but 3 casual tops! Technically, she sent 4, since the patriotic blouse works both ways, too. And I can't believe the price on the dress!

 

Don't you just love the colors? Such a refreshing change from the typical black and white tees in most stores. I was immediately drawn to this pretty pattern, and I knew immediately which top it was.

It's the Pixley Edmond Henley Knit Top in Teal Green for $54.

This blouse is a huge hit in the Facebook buy, sell, trade and discussion group,
especially with moms. I can see why! It's super soft, and easy to throw on with jeans,
just like this next little number.

This lovely little grey top is the Market & Spruce Memphis Lace Overlay Knit Shirt for $58.

This is a great layering piece, and could easily be dressed up or down.

It has that feminine, romantic feel without being overly so.

I threw on a popbasic necklace for a little bit of color.

I love wearing several neutrals together, and grey is one of my favorites.
But goodness, I do have a lot of grey, almost as much as I do navy!
Which is why I was so excited to see this next little gem.

Not too long ago I read an article on the Stitch Fix blog about one of their buyers, and she mentioned these as her favorite tee. It's another Market & Spruce, the Sam Hi-Lo Short Sleeve Tee for $44.

This tee has a unique cut, straight across the front and low in the back.
I think this would be cute sticking out of the back of a utility jacket or cardigan, don't you?

They are made from the same stretchy, yet smooth material as the Corinna dolman everyone asks for.

It has a heathered look about it.

This next item is something new I haven't seen in other reveals, and is the perfect answer to my call for something patriotic! I'm not usually one to dress the part, but I have to perform in a 4th of July concert and needed something to coordinate with my navy wide leg trousers from Loft.

This is the Fun2Fun Hobson Scoop Neck Blouse red, white and navy blue for $44.

I am kind of obsessed with stripes, my kids are wearing them 90% of the time!
I used to be terrified of wearing them, but I've found a few pieces that work with my pear shape.
I'm just not sure this one does.

 

Here's what I wish was going on with it, some narrowing at the waist.

But it may just be that thick red stripe across my hips causing the problem.

Then I remembered my navy 41Hawthorn Benson Blazer from my 3rd Stitch Fix which I'd probably wear with it anyway since I'm always cold. This jacket adds width at the shoulder where I need it, and detracts from the hip area, don't you think?

Last, and straight from my Pinterest Style Board,

the 41Hawthorn Jace Dot Print Fit & Flare Dress in Blue!

I could not believe the price on this fully lined dress, just $48!

I am loving this cut, from the conservative neckline to the perfectly placed pleats.

The length is just right for my 5'6" frame.

I NEVER show my profile, but I'm actually pretty impressed at the way the style of this dress hides my problem areas. It's pretty rare for me to find a dress that doesn't either gape at the armholes or squeeze my thighs, as I'm a small on top and medium on bottom. I'm impressed!

I love dots almost as much as I love stripes, especially tiny ones.
I had to show you a close up of this pattern.

I can't believe I am reviewing my 5th Stitch Fix box!

while also surprising me.

Stitch Fix offers tops, pants, dresses, skirts and all sorts of accessories.
For May I requested more tops and/or cardigans similar to the
Amil V-Neck Blouse and Brixon Ivy Pinson Drape Cardigan from my last few boxes,
and maybe a casual, midi dress. Traci nailed it!

I loved everything so much, I didn't know what to try on first!
For some reason I gravitated toward this.

Just recently I found out that Stitch Fix sends a camisole with sheer tops like this one.
Isn't that nice? This is the Sweet Rain Lucio Blouse in purple.
Pardon my silly face. They keep the photo sessions light with the photographer.

Love the colors, pattern, and style of this top! It reminds me of confetti.
Had to show you a close up since the other photos just didn't seem to be doing it justice.



Unfortunately the seam at the bottom of the top had zero give, which resulted in
a sort of parachute effect at the waist. I sold it in my facebook buy, sell, trade group
in less than 10 minutes.

I was a little sad, but the other 2 tops worked out perfectly!
I am particularly fond of this Pixley Ivy Petal Print Blouse.
This is one of my favorite color combinations: navy, coral and white.

This is the perfect solution to my floral print problems.

I want to love florals, but sometimes they look like they belong in a museum.

I think it's really more geometric than floral.

I wore it for mother's day. I realized after seeing these pictures

I cannot wear it with my favorite jeans.

I wore it with some orangey-red boot cut corduroys I had from back in the day,

but they were too matchy and yet way off.

So, it being mother's day, I ordered myself some white jeans.

Yes, I said white. I can't take it anymore, everyone else is doing it!

They go with everything! I ordered my usual Loft, curvy (also love modern) straight jeans.

I'm sure you'll see them in many pictures in the future.

I told Traci I needed a long sleeve navy cardigan and I got the same one my Mom had in her 2nd fix!
She says she regrets sending it back, so even though I am not sure I love it, I am holding onto it.
It's just a little tiny bit long.

This is the 41Hawthorn Abrianna Longsleeve Knit Cardigan.

 I do love the drape, it lays perfectly. And it definitely works with my next top!

If it were any shorter the "tail" would stick out,

which I didn't realize until I looked through my photos.

The cardigan also passed the "over-the-sleeve" test.

Who needs a cardigan that looks like a sausage casing? Not me.

This one has plenty of room, without feeling baggy.

Enough about the cardigan, isn't this Skies are Blue Avila V-Neck Blouse cute?

There are so many reasons this works for me.

It's light colored, which usually washes me out, but it has enough print to balance it out.

I love the pops of color, and the long lines are flattering.

It fits perfectly, and it's a great weight for summer.

It works with the Pinson drape cardigan, too, don't you think?

I wish I'd had as much luck with this Le Lis Nene Striped Midi, but the sizing was off.
Regardless, the stripe wasn't bold enough to offset the white, and I looked extra pasty.
I don't think the length is particularly flattering, but I did ask for it.

I love the concept.

It would have looked great with a bright belt or cardigan

or some cute red shoes.

And if you can pull it off, it's a great length for moms (always bending over)

It was easy to sell, I had several offers.

Altogether I was very pleased with this month's box of goodies!

The prices were reasonable, especially after the 25% discount for keeping it all.

Surprise, Surprise: Stitch Fix Review #3 March 2015

So I've become pretty active in Facebook groups created for buying, selling, and trading subscription box items. I just learned a new trick. It turns out, you can "peek" at your Stitch Fix, before it arrives. Simply click on "checkout survey" in the "Your fix is on it's way!" email.

So, here's a fact about me. Out of the 4 times I've been pregnant, I found out the gender beforehand ZERO times. Impressive, right? So I thought it would be easy to wait until my Fix arrived.

It wasn't easy, especially watching everyone else reveal their fixes on Facebook, and selling items I really wanted. But I waited. And waited. I almost looked once, but then I remembered why I started Stitch Fix in the first place.

Someone asked me the other day what it is I like about Stitch Fix.
For me, it isn't the convenience, because even as a mother of 4, I manage to find time here and there to shop. I would say it's the element of surprise!

I also love having someone with expertise in fashion style me, I need all the help I can get!

Romolo Genevieve Stacked Chevron Pendant Necklace $28

So, I was definitely taken by surprise when Traci sent this necklace.
I had checked the boxes on my profile to let her know I didn't want to receive any jewelry.
But if you've seen my pinterest board lately, it's flooded with Stitch Fix jewelry.

You can thank my #enablers on my Facebook groups for that.
When I see the jewelry in their fixes I am super jealous!
So, Traci read my mind (rather my pinterest) and sent over this mixed metal necklace and I love it!
It goes really well with a lot of my new tunics and dresses, as you'll see later.

Pixley Martina Slub Knit Open Cardigan $48

I specifically asked for an open cardigan with pockets and again Traci delivered!
I wonder if she caught on to my latest obsession with slub knits when she picked it out.

Above, I paired it with a cobalt short sleeve Daniel Rainn blouse I picked up from Marshall's this morning. This is another great thing about Stitch Fix, trying things on with what you already have.

Below, I styled the cardigan and the necklace with my Puella dress from Golden Tote.

Skies are Blue Amil V-Neck Blouse $48

I can definitely see the connection between this blouse and my feedback, as well as my pinterest board. I pin a lot of flowy tops, I love geometric shapes, the colors are great for me, and I love a 3/4 sleeve. I have other Skies are Blue items in my closet that I've purchased elsewhere.

My Mom gave me these Loft modern straight jeans for my birthday, and I wear them with everything.

I think this top looks great dressed up or down.

41Hawthorn Benson 3/4 Ruched Sleeve Blazer $78

Here's another item I recently pinned. It comes in many colors, but my stylist picked up on my affinity for navy. Something I didn't notice about it when I pinned it is the contrasting black stripe.

I likely would have never picked this out for myself in a store, but seeing it on other blogs sold me.

I love it when Stitch Fix sends items that can be worn together!

Traci was right, you've got to size up on this jacket. I think it fits well,

and I like that it emphasizes my waist.

I'm really loving this combination!

Papermoon Lexis Henley Knit Top $48

I specifically asked for more casual clothing. Did they know it would be 95 degrees in Southern California the day this arrived?! This also paired well with the blazer and fit very nicely.

Decision, decisions.

Since I like a good mystery, I didn't look at the prices until I was done trying on the clothes.

I like to keep an open mind.

Very reasonable indeed!

Think I should keep it all, for the 25% discount? 

$187.50 is pretty good for 5 quality pieces.
